Overview
During my third-year internship at Deviate Design (Bonaire) I served as UX lead for Tera Barra, a local nature organization protecting Bonaire’s biodiversity. I designed the digital concept, produced video content, and created print assets and social media templates to make their mission tangible for visitors and supporters. On site, the terrain wasn’t intuitive. Visitors had to ask volunteers what was where, which stories lived behind each spot, and why the work mattered. The impact of volunteers and the importance of Tera Barra for biodiversity wasn’t visible enough. People also didn’t know quickly how to donate.

The Challenge
As this was my big project for my internship at Deviate Design, I filled in a lot of rolls. UX Lead & Concept: mapped the visitor journey, defined content structure, and designed the interaction model. Producer & Editor: wrote scripts and storyboards, directed on-site recordings, and edited all videos. Visual & Content Design: photographed the site, co-wrote texts with volunteers, and developed print + social templates. I learned and used Momento360 to build the interactive map and brought in local artists and volunteers to co-create props and visual elements, turning knowledge and stories into tangible touchpoints. A core requirement was to help visitors quickly understand how to donate and why volunteers are essential—so donation access and volunteer stories needed to be front and center in the experience.
The Solution
I designed an interactive, story-driven map of the terrain using Momento360. Each hotspot reveals short videos, photos, and voice notes from volunteers: what happens here, which species live here, and why it matters. The interface highlights “Support & Donate” and “Meet the Volunteers” from the first interaction. Content and visuals were co-created with volunteers and local artists. Together we shaped scripts, recorded narration, and built props and markers that match the island’s character and Tera Barra’s identity. With the help of True Media & Culture (on-site filming and drone shots), I directed and then edited all footage into concise, place-based stories that fit the map’s hotspots and the social media toolkit.
The Result
On-site digital screen: an interactive station where volunteers can guide visitors through the garden and its stories without repeating the same explanations all day. Map on the website: people can explore the terrain remotely, discover what volunteers do, and find clear ways to support Tera Barra—before or after their visit. Consistent toolkit: print assets and social templates extend the same narrative across channels, keeping the look and message tight.
The Transfer
Working with so many different people on an unfamiliar island shifted my craft. I’m grateful to the volunteers, the local artists, and True Media & Culture for their trust and help. What I took with me: Film production & editing: sharper directing on location, tighter edits, and a stronger feel for pacing and story. Storytelling: translating field work into human stories that move people to act. Technical growth: mastering Momento360 and integrating multimedia into an accessible UX flow. This project isn’t just a map. It’s a living guide that lets Tera Barra speak for itself—clearly, locally, and with heart.
